The Chalfonts Community College

Date of Visit: 15th November 2005

This conference was organsied by Fiona Glen.

“You came to The Astley Cooper school last year to run a conference for my yr 12 AS Business Studies students. I am now at a different school and delivering applied business courses. Are you able to organise a conference relating to AS coursework units for Applied Business?”

Often people assume that ONLY A levels Economics and Business Studies can be delievered. This is not true – anything within the Business/Economics field (including BTEC, professional courses, GCSE, specific options) can be supplied. In addition courses in Study Skills and courses for teachers/examiners can be booked!

  • 9.20 am lesson 1 – Unit 6 students (10 students)
  • 10.15 am lesson 2 – Marketing (3 students) Marketing Mix in Travel and Tourism, AVCE Edexcel, Unit 4
  • 11.10 am – 11.30 am break
  • 11.30 am – 3.40 pm – Unit 6 students are in and out of other lessons so could come to the conference as and when available
  • Lunch 1.10 pm – 2.00 pm

Comments from the pupils include: “I enjoy the real-life examples given by the tutor”, “Very interesting, helped a lot”, and “I really enjoyed the conference!”. For this conference there were two speakers which meant we could split up into two groups, thus allowing pupils to present their business ideas.

As always the Dystonia Society poster was on display

Compliments

Thank you so much for everything. Your in-put into Tom’s economics has made a massive difference to him. He has also enjoyed you teaching him, which is more than half of the battle I guess. Thanks also for your understanding with Tom’s stress levels! Hopefully now exams are over (or tomorrow, should I say), things will only improve now! Can’t thank you enough. Your reputation was excellent when we first heard of you, but having experienced the effect your teaching has, you deserve even better! Obviously Tom will be emailing you tomorrow to let you know how he got on and meantime, enough of my compliments! With best wishes. - Sue, Parent
