Akeley Wood School

Date of Visit: March 27th, 2007

The original emails included: “AS AQA (Tuesday 27.03.07 – morning session) – the case study relating to units 2 & 3.These students are taught by the HOD and myself. I took over from another teacher after the first term and they had done very little during that time, so I had to start the course again, so we are quite far behind.

A2 AQA (Tuesday 27.03.07) – afternoon session
Neither myself nor my HOD have taught the AQA syllabus before, so we thought you might want to concentrate on Module 5, which is about report writing. However, you are the expert so we will leave it up to you to decide what you think is best for them.”

The day was very hectic – more or less non-stop from 9 am to 6pm. During the morning session we covered the entire case study with special emphasis on the various tables. The material used is that available via Oxbow as that is far more teacher-friendly (and pupil-friendly) than that provided elsewhere.

The afternoon was spent on A2 with special emphasis on the Report paper. Pupils were shown how in the past stunning results, where the whole syllabus was covered in just four hours, were achieved.

An email from the school said:

Thank-you for all your help, I really appreciate it and I know that most of the kids did as well. You worked miracles with Laura and I’m so grateful for that!”

Compliments

Thank you (once again) for all you have done for Jack – which I think has gone beyond the economics tutoring and into how to approach studying etc. I really am so grateful for all the hours you have given over to this. See you very soon – I will miss your emails falling into my inbox – they have been v entertaining at times! With love and immense appreciation - Caroline, Parent
